What pioneers Auntie Roz and Uncle Alfred were. They left Detroit for Palos Verdes Estates in the 1950's and yet, always stayed connected to family and friends. I remember the house on the mountain like it was yesterday, but it has been 50+ years! And they kept it all those years for good reason! What a beautiful place. Auntie Roz was really and truly her mother's daughter. I think Grandma Molly Tolchinsky Bohn and Auntie Roz were probably a lot alike. Well, I think Aunt Roz built a life on her mother's shoulders. What a childhood. Max (her brother) spoke of that time often, the Great Depression, the store that got them thru it, lives of triumph and tragedy, but always forward, always appreciative of all the good that life brought. I remember the time when Auntie and Uncle came back to Detroit to make an anniversary party. That was, what, 20 years ago? Probably. That was a great party at that steak house in Clawson, Michigan! Auntie and Uncle took many cruises to Maui and I am so glad to have been able to meet them here every time even if only for a few hours. It became a ritual, a tradition! We were sorry when it stopped after Uncle passed. But, Auntie always made sure to keep in touch, and those solid half-hours on the phone every couple of months were just great. The last one was a few weeks ago, and, she did not let on. We love our Auntie and miss her already. We'll be thinking of you, Auntie Roz and Uncle Alfred! And Stanford, lets keep in touch too, right? Right. Love, and Aloha, a hui hou, until we meet again. Ricky and Diana Tolin
