I wish I had known about Lou's death in time to attend his service. He was such a favorite at the LA Tiimes, a wonderful photographer and a great colleague.

A photo-journalist for the LA Times, Louie was a gifted photographer. His assignments included shooting pics of rockstar Janis Joplin or flying on President Richard Nixon's plane. Louie enjoyed his profession as much as he enjoyed working out, riding his bike, playing handball with guys 20 years younger, Louie was always physically fit. I was blessed to meet Louie and for 30 years, it was wonderful to call him a close friend. We had many good times together, the best were enjoyed by his home pool and in his later years, watch him carefully tend to stray cats who'd gather daily for food. As Lord Byron said, "I like gardens, and it's been a pleasure to walk through yours. "
