With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Dr. Leslie M. Lackman, 88, who peacefully left us on March 29th, 2024, surrounded by his family. Leslie was born on April 30th, 1935 to Louis and Sylvia Lackman in Los Angeles, California.

Leslie was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Leslie is survived by his children, Robert (Karin) and David, his grandson Joey, and his nieces, nephews, and cousins. His presence in their lives will be deeply missed but forever cherished. He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond and his beloved sister, Sharon. Leslie was a preeminent aerospace engineer who spent 65 years in industry and academia. He played a prominent role in the design and production of the B-1 Bomber as chief engineer. He led Rockwell International’s Advance Programs, culminating in the design and production of the X-31 demonstrator fighter. After retiring from industry, Leslie became an adjunct engineering professor at UCLA School of Engineering. At UCLA he taught, developed a novel online master’s program, and made other significant contributions to the school.

He was a founding member of the American Academy of Mechanics and a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Leslie was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed watching every Cubs game and was at the final three games of the 2016 World Series where his lifelong dream of a Cubs World Series Championship was finally realized.

Leslie’s life was a testament to mental toughness, love, and dedication. Those who knew him will carry his memory as a source of happiness and inspiration.
