In our younger years, when growing up in New York, I recall Sherry, and how close she and I, and my brother, Steve, and Phyllis were. When our parents got together, we'd sneak off to play in the bedroom; usually "doctor," with me, always, the patient at the mercy of three tickling, prodding , giggling, conspiring "surgeons." Well, those memories have cured on their own and enclose Sherry in an aura that ever draws me to her. Sherry also lived in the aura of her sister, Phyllis, whose accomplishments we well know. Who among us has had a school named after them? Who spent their professional life in giving so much to so many distressed children for so long, from their education to the caring they needed, day by day. In some sense it was hard for me to see Sherry except through her sister. But when I was able to see her, as she was and had become -- a feisty, intelligent, cantankerous, warm, caring woman and mother -- I knew that the two sisters reflected or refracted each other, each in their way and each in their own style. I last visited with Sherry in February 2019 at the unveiling of Aunt Helen's grave: a beautiful windy LA day, it was. Afterward, at Cindy's home, where we gathered to eat, drink and talk, I was able to resume the conversation I'd had with Sherry when she last visited NY to see Kim, Jordan and, most especially, their boys, Charlie and Ethan. When I heard that Sherry had gone into hospital and was in ICU on a respirator, I cringed. I knew what it was like to be in hospital, my wife, Carolyn, having had a heart operation in November, and I knew what it meant to have visitors. Of course, because of the virus, visits were impossible. Sherry was on her own, firecely compromised by illness, struggling to endure with the kind of grit I will always remember her for. Goodbye Sherry. You are with us, as we remember you, as you live in those of us who survive you. Your presence enriches. I love you. Allan Graubard
