Sara “Sez” (Zaretsky) Sternberg passed away on January 19, 2021 at age 99. She was born to Russian immigrant parents in Philadelphia, PA. Her family moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she met her childhood sweetheart, Nathan. The couple married and moved to California where they purchased their home in Alhambra, CA, and lived for over 60 years.
Sez had a love for Asian art and collected items during her lifetime. She enjoyed needlepoint, loved music of the ‘40s and ‘50s, playing mahjong, card games and going to horse races. She was an avid reader and read the NY Times and LA Times daily.
Sez was active in synagogue and B’nai B’rith organization, worked in many of their family-owned businesses in southern California, as a teacher’s aide and as an election poll worker for many years.
An avid orchid fancier and rosarian, she was especially proud of her abundant collection of orchid plants. She loved dining on dim sum every chance she could and was a lifelong Dodgers fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan, their firstborn son and her siblings, Louis and Rose. She leaves behind 3 sons, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 4 nieces and 2 nephews.
