Sandra Lynn (Schaffer) Gaynon, PhD, age 71, of La Canada, California died May 20, 2021, after a valiant struggle with multiple sclerosis. She was born in Chicago, Illinois. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University in Chicago and her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. After many years a teacher, she served five years as primary school principal in Waterloo, Wisconsin. She served the children of the Burbank Unified School District for ten years with extraordinary energy and compassion as Director of Special Education, until illness intervened. Beloved mother of Elliot, Rachel (Guest), and Rebecca, treasured wife of Paul for more than forty years, and cherished sister of Elaine and Bonnie, she lived to hold her dear granddaughters, Ariela and Evelyn, and complained that she was too young to be a grandmother. Special thanks are due to her nurse, Ms. Christina Thom, who helped her through these difficult years.
