On October 15, 2021, Mollie Samarel Schartoff died at her home in La Mirada. She was two weeks short of her 98th birthday.
Mollie is survived by her son, Jerry Schartoff (and Pamula Fodor), and daughter and son in law Diane Schartoff Jennings and Howard Jennings. She had five grandchildren: Jeffrey Schartoff, (and Cory Catone), Daniel and Michelle Schartoff, David Schartoff (and Marissa Friedman), Stephen and AJ Jennings, and Michelle Jennings (and Carlos Olalla). She had three great grandchildren: Daniella Jennings, Cooper Jennings and Malia Olalla. Her joy in life was to love and be loved by her family. Further, she is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Samarel Oliver and Liz’s family. She is also survived by her former daughter in law, Carole Schartoff (and Wesley Carrol) and her only remaining family member of the same generation, Rochelle Brandon.
Her husband, Norman Schartoff, July 2, 1919-December 19, 1991, was the love of her life. They met on a blind date in 1940 and married six months later. There were many health challenges, but they lived a wonderful and fulfilling life together for 51 years. Family, travels, dancing, bowling and entertaining were their joy.
After her husband’s passing, Mollie became very active in volunteering. She was a member of the Sisterhood of Temple Beth Ohr, an active member of the Meals on Wheels program in La Mirada, California, and an usher and volunteer for the La Mirada Performing Arts Center. She received many accolades for her commitment to volunteering. Her heart was big and she always wanted to help in any way possible.
