Dear "little sister" Janet, Julie, Mike and family, I sadly learned of Linda's release just last night from Vicki and of the service at 8:45a today from Diane. Since I live in Dana Point, I couldn't scramble in time to make it to Simi. I would definitely have been there. Linda and the Olander family played a huge part in my life from 5th grade on when we became best friends. We used to ride our bikes to each other's homes. My father was gone and your sweet Dad was the grown up male example in my life. He was kind and generous to me. My first trip to Disneyland was with you all on Linda's b-day. And yes, I was the one who got sick in the teacups. Sorry! I got to share your wonderful Grandma and giggled when she "lived in sin" with her love so they could both keep social security. I was also priveleged to be an attendant in her wedding to Jim. That was a beautiful wedding that brought joy and affirmation on a sad weekend. Later when my Mother remarried, they used to go out with your parents (Liz and Guy Owen). Linda was smart. She didn't work hard at school but was a quick study and learned anything she wanted to learn in depth and well. And oh my goodness she was funny and quick witted. She was also very compassionate and caring. She did so many things for people in a quiet way, without acknowledgement or fanfare. Linda had a car so many of our fun High School stories revolve around and/or involve her. We had a grand time anytime we were with her! There were many trips to Zuma beach to spend too much time in the sun and many times cruising. It was a freer and less menacing time then. Laughter, always laughter! So much fun to be young and "free" and sometimes stupid. I haven't seen Linda in a few years. She was using her strength to help Lee and fight her cancer. She rebuffed offers of visits, meals, etc. Thought not in sight...she has never been far from my mind and always in my heart. Some people profoundly affect us and Linda has done so to me in the best possible ways. She is an intrinsic part of me and I will never be without her or her influence. A beautiful soul forever with me. I mourn her but celebrate the power of her life, her gifts, her love and friendship over the decades. I send prayers to you, her family for comfort and peace. With love, Beth Hindley Brokaw 21 Regatta Way Dana Point CA 92629 949-661-5009
