Leslie Norman Pollack was born in Los Angeles on August 11, 1936, to Freda Blau Pollack and Philip Pollack. Les graduated from Cal State Los Angeles with multiple degrees in education. Les played the trumpet and euphonium, and played minor league baseball, including for the Hollywood Stars for several years, before beginning his 33-year teaching career with the Los Angeles Unified School District. The years he spent in the classroom were among his most cherished, where he truly connected with his students and their families. He worked tirelessly and creatively to bridge language barriers and provide meaningful English, health, and physical education experiences. Les also appeared in dozens of commercials, movies and television shows, and took great pride in his craft. Les had a remarkable sense of humor, was a tremendous storyteller, and enjoyed playing with the English language to the delight of his students and grandkids Les passed away on March 21, 2016 in Lompoc, CA. He is survived by his brother Jerry Pollack, cousin Lynn Kruse, and daughters Caryn Shapiro (Larry), Belinda Hammond (Mark) and Kristie Leshinskie (Eric), and grandchildren Brittany, Britney, Kyle, Evan, Justin, Keira and Becca.
