Ina Sue Shulman
August 10, 1940 – November 4, 2014
Ina Sue Shulman, beloved wife of Sanford Shulman, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at home after a long and valiant battle with cancer. She was 74 years old. Ina Sue was born in Brooklyn, New York, to loving parents Sam and Clara Ritzer, but grew up in the San Fernando Valley, where she attended North Hollywood High. Vivacious and high spirited, Ina Sue was married to her devoted and loving husband Sanford “Sandy” Shulman in 1959. She is survived by her loving husband Sandy, her children, Len Shulman (wife-Dodette) and daughter Eileen Daley, 5 grandchildren, Shaylynn, Tyson, Tyler, McKenzie and Kennedy and two great grandchildren, Hudson and Aiden. She is also survived by her brother Harold Ritzer (wife-Sharon).
Other than her family, which was always paramount in her life, Ina Sue loved the sport of kings. She was an avid horse racing enthusiast, as involved in the sport as was her husband, a noted horse trainer, once known as the King of Hollywood Park. They were members of all three Southern California turf clubs, and were familiar figures on the racetrack scene for many years. Their parties for friends, fellow trainers and jockeys were legendary when they lived in Arcadia, in the shadow of Santa Anita race track.
Ina Sue was a longtime member of women’s ORT, the Jewish education and vocational training organization, and was a spirited supporter of the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation of Irvine. But most of all, Ina Sue was a loving and doting wife, mother and grandmother, and her passing is a major loss for her family and legions of friends who loved her so much. Services will be held at Mount Sinai, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068 on Monday, November 10th at 11:30 a.m. For further details, contact Mount Sinai online www.mountsinaiparks.org. Ina Sue’s family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation of Irvine www.pcrf-kids.org
