Helene was an amazing woman! She was one of my mom’s best friends, and she and Bob were good friends of my parents. I have wonderful memories of our two families sharing happy times when I was a child. I have told the story to friends countless times as to Helene beating the odds in surviving lung cancer as a young woman. She redirected that survival drive to helping others beat cancer. The last time I saw Helene was at my dad’s 90th birthday party. It was so much fun reminiscing, and she was a funny and spry as ever. I contacted Helene a while back. I was planning to visit her, and then the pandemic hit, so we never got together. I send my condolences to Jeff and Brian. May your mom’s memory always be a blessing for you.

I was privileged to know and to work with Helene for many years. She was an incredible force in the cancer field and will be sorely missed by all of us. God bless and keep you friend.

In the '80's, I was an active volunteer for the California Division of the American Cancer Society, while employed at Pacific Bell as DIrector of Preventive Medicine. I had many opportunities to get to know Helene and, as Gary Reedy said, she was a force of nature. Dynamic, strategic, forceful and persistent. She was a leader before her time and pre-dated Donna Shalala and Nancy Pelosi, other dynamos. She will be missed, but made a huge difference when she was with us.
