Helen was born in Minneapolis and graduated from the University of Minnesota in education. Helen married her long-time sweetheart, Mervin in 1948. They served the Jewish communities in various states, moving to Los Angeles in 1971.
She had a love of Judaism which infused every aspect of her life. They were a presenting couple for Jewish Marriage Encounter since 1976. Helen was a dedicated volunteer in bringing Holocaust memorial programs to the Burbank schools. She was also a literacy tutor for children and adults. As a giving and caring person, she knitted many booties and caps for premature babies. Helen enhanced the lives of everyone she touched.
She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 66 years, Rabbi Mervin Tomsky; Loving children Dan (Anne Heller) Tomsky, Sharon Tomsky, & Judy Tomsky; Cherished grandchildren Andrew & Daria.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Helen’s memory to Jewish National Fund or American Friends of Magen David Adom.
Services are today at 2PM at Mount Sinai Memorial Park – Simi Valley.
