Longtime Moorpark resident, Ellen Abramson, 74, passed away in her home on the evening of February 19, with family and close friends by her side. Ellen was born in Wexford, Ireland on February 12, 1940, to Martin and Bridget Sullivan. Soon after her 18th birthday, she moved to Los Angeles, where she was employed as a nanny. She later became a secretary at the House of Fabrics where she met her future husband, Morris Abramson.

Ellen and Morrie were married on March 24, 1963 and began their life together in San Fernando Valley. Later they moved to Agoura Hills and raised their two sons, Mark and Jeff. As soon as Mark and Jeff were old enough, Ellen found her true passion and became a registered nurse working primarily in the ICU unit for over 30 years. Ellen defined what a nurse should be- kind, caring, nurturing, supportive, and loving.

Ellen and Morrie were an invaluable help to their younger son Jeff and his family, regularly picking up their beloved grandchildren, Alicia, Max and Erik, from school and spoiling them with love and too much ice cream. After Morrie’s passing in 2009, Ellen continued the tradition on her own, happy to help and providing a nurturing environment.

In 2009, Ellen was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, but had no intention of giving up without a fight. For five years she lived with the disease and she was up and running until only a few months before her passing. She was actively involved in a number of cancer support groups, places where she would talk, share, and find solace with her friends.

Ellen was a kind and loving woman, always willing to listen, with an open door that welcomed both family and friends. She was generous to a fault, working tirelessly to provide for her loved ones, especially her children and three grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her sons, Mark and Jeff, and their families, her sister Katie and her family, and many other relatives and close friends. And by Luna of course, her sweet doggy companion for the past few years. A memorial service for Ellen will be held Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 12:30pm at Mount Sinai, Hollywood Hills.
