Barbara Zena Kimel, a devoted, protective and loving mother, grandmother, wife and daughter, has died. She was 70.

Barbara unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Agoura Hills Wednesday night on Yom Kippur.

Born in Bangor, Maine in 1949, Barbara moved to California at the age of 7 with her parents, Theodore and Ellen Braveman. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1967, attending classes with lifelong friends and participating in B’nai B’rith Girls events with the Naomi Ruth Chapter.

Barbara was a social butterfly, making new friends each week. She stood up for everyone she loved and fought for them selflessly. She was so many peoples’ person they confided in.

She met her husband, Ed Kimel, 40 years ago at a bar in Los Angeles. Ed and Barbara were married on July 3, 1983. Their first child, Matthew Kimel, was born on Jan. 23, 1984 in Tarzana. Shortly after, Barbara gave birth to their daughter, Ashley Dadon, on Oct. 25, 1986.

Several years later, Barbara and Ed moved out of the San Fernando Valley and bought a home in Agoura Hills, where they raised Matthew and Ashley. Barbara enjoyed volunteering in their classrooms and being their team’s mom. She was a Brownie troop leader and member of the Brandeis Conejo Valley Chapter.

Barbara’s dream of becoming a Nana came true when Ashley gave birth to her three grandsons, Hudson, Brayden and Ari, over the last few years. There was nothing she loved more than being with the Dadon boys.

Barbara leaves behind her devoted husband, Ed Kimel, their children Matthew Kimel and Ashley (husband Barry) Dadon, and her three grandsons. Barbara is also survived by her loving mother Ellen Braveman, sister Pam (husband Chris) Taylor, her nieces Melody Taylor and Amanda Taylor and brother Stephen (wife Wanda) Braveman.
