Over its 53 year history, Mount Sinai has incorporated the Kever Avot tradition of visiting the graves of loved ones with its own tradition of a full High Holy Day Memorial Service free and open to the entire community this year on Sunday, October 5, 2008. I want to extend a welcome to you, your loved ones, your friends, and anyone you know whose loved ones are buried here or far away, to join us at Mount Sinai for Kever Avot. Highlighting the 10:00 A.M. Services at Hollywood Hills will be a keynote memorial address by Valley Beth Shalom’s Rabbi Edward Feinstein; while Rabbi Richard Camras of Shomrei Torah Synagogue will keynote the 1:00 P.M. services at Mount Sinai Simi Valley. Adding depth and meaning to Services at Simi Valley will be display of the Mount Sinai Shoah Quilts of Memory, dedicated to remembrance of the Holocaust. For your personal invitation, please call me at (866) 71-SINAI or e-mail to gmoffice@mountsinaiparks.org.

Augmenting both services will be music, with Sinai Temple Cantors Joseph Gole and Arianne Brown, the 50 plus voice Los Angeles Zimriyah Chorale and Sinai Temple Choir leading services at Hollywood Hills. Music at Simi Valley’s Kamenir Chapel will feature Cantor Rochelle Krause and Cantorial Soloist Ricki Gole. Joining them will be the choir of Beit T’Shuvah, the only Jewish rehabilitation center in the United States.

A note, a letter, a photograph we come upon – all these and more remind us of the memories we hold dear, both as individuals and families. As General Manager, I’m proud to extend an invitation for you to obtain our free Mount Sinai Family Planner and Guide to help you secure your precious memories, and the records that will help your family, even when you can no longer be there. Please contact me at 866-71-SINAI or e-mail gmoffice@mountsinaiparks.org so that we can send this beautiful booklet to you.

Over the years, I’ve met many families whose loved ones are buried far away, or who have no eternal memorial, and have felt a keen responsibility to establish a place for permanent remembrance. Mount Sinai’s Wall of Living Memories in our Hollywood Hills Memorial Park, will provide such a place for the entire community. This addition to the Park is of great personal import to me as I plan to honor my family members who are buried in New York by memorializing them on the Wall. For more information, click on http://www.mountsinaiparks.org/press.

I invite you to preview the magnificent Shoah Quilt to be displayed at our Kever Avot Services in Simi Vallley and to hear the stories behind their creation.. The more than 150 squares in the Quilt each represent a personal statement of remembrance and reflection of the Holocaust To see some of the Quilt and view selections from this “Quilt of Memory” video, please click here: "Quilt of Memory" (2:37) Video Preview

L’Shana Tova, a good and sweet year, from our Mount Sinai family to yours.
